"FREE BALLROOM DANCE CLASS"

Get Your Groove on with a family ballroom dancing class at the Avon Library featuring: lessons and samples of Tango, Merengue, Samba, Waltz & Swing. Wendy Nielsen will bring her 15 years of dance professional dance competition and 25 years of teaching experience to this program. She teaches at the Arthur Murray Studio, New Britain High, the Elmwood Community Center, and many other places, training amateurs and professionals for Ballroom Dance competitions. "ALZHEIMER'S PROJECT MOVIE AT THE AVON LIBRARY"
Thursday, November 12, 2009 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Arden Courts of Avon, the Avon Public Library and the Avon Senior Center Present a free Film Screening of "The Alzheimer's Project." This critically acclaimed HBO documentary series will change the way you think about Alzheimer's disease. "Caregivers" is a collection of five family portraits that illustrate caring for those in different stages of Alzheimer's disease. "Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am?" featuring Maria Shriver. This film is geared toward children and young teens coping with a grandparent's illness. An open forum discussion will follow each of the screenings which will include an overview of the information contained in the documentary as well as answer any questions you may have regarding Alzheimer's disease and dementia. What will you talk about with your family over Thanksgiving dinner? Your wishes. . . . . It's important to implement plans to ensure that one's wishes at end-of-life are known, documented and honored. Learn about options for end-of-life care and services. When you make choices, be sure the person appointed to make decisions on your behalf understands your wishes. But don't stop there. Engage in communications to voice those wishes and decisions to family, friends, faith leaders, and medical providers. Learn about CT Advance Directive statutes. Please join Amy Sumner, LCSW from McLean as she explains the importance of your wishes.

Monday, November 30, 2009 – Presentation from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Join us for an informative discussion about matters of the heart with board certified Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, Dr. Vincent Jaegar. Learn how a heart healthy lifestyle will promote total well being including eating a healthy diet, engaging in regular exercise, reducing stress and being surrounded in an environment that stimulates the mind, body and soul. A carotid artery screening performed with a stethoscope will be available following the presentation. Pre-registration required. Please call the senior center at 675-4355 to sign up. (CRT Lunch Schedule for November, 2009)
Come and enjoy lunch at the Avon Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. CRT (Community Renewal Team) sponsors a lunch program at the Avon Senior Center, offering a hot, nutritious and health conscious meal. A printed menu is available each month, and reservations are required. To make a reservation, please call the Avon Senior Center the day before by 12:00 noon at 675-4355. The cost is a $2.00 donation for persons over the age of 60 and a $4.50 donation for persons 55-59 years of age. The lunch program is open to all seniors in the Town of Avon as well as surrounding towns. Come and join us and make some new friends.
