CT Energy Assistance Programs:
The State of CT helps households pay for primary heating bills. To be eligible, household income could be up to 200% of the federal poverty income guidelines. For the upcoming 2009-2010 winter season, the Town of Avon Dept. of Social Services will be mailing more details for RETURNING applicants in September 2009. If you do not receive this mailing by the end of September 2009, please call Social Services at (860) 409-4346.
If you are a 1st - time applicant & heating with OIL or PROPANE, please call our office after September 1st, 2009 @ (860) 409-4346 to see if you qualify & to schedule an appointment. For those who heat with ELECTRIC or GAS, please call after November 1, 2009 to receive information and to schedule an appointment.
Operation Fuel:
Operation Fuel provides one-time assistance with heating bills for those that do not qualify for government programs. More information is usually available by October-November each year through Gifts of Love at (860) 676-2323.
Furnace Rebate Hotline:
Governor M. Jodi Rell announced on 8/7/08 that residents may call a new toll-free hotline to receive information about the state's new furnace rebate program.~ The hotline # is: 1-866-940-4676. Residents who leave their name, mailing address & phone # will be mailed program application materials. The State Bond Commission recently authorized a program to provide rebates of up to $500 for homeowners who replace their furnaces with more efficient models.
